Project Overview

SpeX recently completed a UK office project involving the delivery of two single-person soundproof booths. The aim was to provide employees with quieter and more private spaces for phone calls, video meetings and short periods of focused individual work.

 

Instead of constructing additional permanent rooms, the client selected a modular acoustic workspace solution that could be introduced into the existing office with greater flexibility. The two-pod configuration added dedicated private work points while making efficient use of the available floor area.

The Workplace Challenge

Open-plan offices encourage communication and collaboration, but they can also create challenges when several employees make calls or join online meetings at the same time. Background conversations, ringing phones and general workplace activity may affect concentration and speech clarity.

Employees also need an appropriate level of privacy when discussing projects, speaking with customers or attending video calls. Using a large meeting room for every individual call is rarely an efficient use of space, particularly when meeting rooms are already in regular demand.

The UK project therefore required a compact solution designed specifically for individual use. The booths needed to support frequent daily calls without making the office feel visually enclosed or requiring major structural alterations.

SpeX supplied two single-person soundproof office pods, each providing an independent acoustic workspace for one user. The booths help reduce interference from surrounding office noise while also limiting the transmission of conversations into the wider workspace.

Each pod incorporates double-layer acoustic glass, a fresh-air ventilation system and integrated power connections. The glass design maintains visual openness and allows the booths to fit naturally into a contemporary office environment.

With a speech-level noise reduction performance of approximately 30–35 dB, the pods create more suitable conditions for phone calls, video conferences and focused tasks. They are designed to reduce noise disturbance and improve speech privacy rather than claim complete sound isolation.

The SpeX Solution

The two booths were supplied as modular office products. This approach reduces the need to build permanent meeting rooms and gives the customer greater flexibility when planning future changes to the workplace.

If the office layout or staffing requirements change, the pods can be repositioned where site conditions allow. This makes a relocatable acoustic pod especially relevant for growing businesses, leased offices and hybrid workplaces where space requirements may continue to evolve.

The compact single-person format also allows private work areas to be added without occupying the floor space required for a conventional meeting room.

Modular and Flexible Installation

Following completion of the project, the UK workplace gained two dedicated spaces for individual communication and concentration. Employees can use the booths for customer calls, online meetings, video interviews or tasks that require fewer distractions.

Providing two separate booths also supports simultaneous use during busy periods. This helps distribute demand for private spaces and reduces unnecessary reliance on larger meeting rooms for one-person activities.

The integrated ventilation system supports air circulation during use, while the power connections allow employees to work with laptops and mobile devices inside the booth.

Project Results

This UK project demonstrates how two single-person soundproof booths can add practical acoustic workspaces to an existing office. Through modular construction, double-layer glass, fresh-air ventilation and integrated power, the SpeX solution supports privacy, concentration and more flexible use of the workplace.
